Since 1997, thousands of students have discovered how simple it is to learn creative writing online with the professional writers of New York's leading creative writing school, Gotham Writers' Workshop. Classes are presented in an easy-to-understand, accessible manner and include everything you would expect to find in a live class.
The Teen Ink Writing Workshops were created specifically to inspire and develop teen writers. These six-week workshops are highly interactive and consist of the following:
Lectures A lecture on an element of craft is posted to the Blackboard section of your online class every week. You and your classmates can then read the lecture, make comments, or raise questions at any time. The teacher responds to these comments and questions, and thus a discussion is created over the course of the week. And you don’t have to take any notes. All you have to do is print the week’s lecture/discussion to get a hard copy of the concepts that have been discussed.
Writing Exercises You have a private online Notebook, available only to you and your teacher. Weekly, your teacher posts an exercise that focuses on a particular creative writing skill. After you complete the exercise and post your work, your teacher responds with personal feedback on your writing.
Critique In the final week of class, students have the opportunity to submit a final writing exercise to The Booth, our simple yet highly effective system for critiquing student work. You and your classmates then post comments: positive comments followed by suggestions for improvement. Then the teacher posts his or her extensive analysis of the writing.
You learn more in six weeks than you might in months of trial and error. The course is at once challenging and gratifying. Week after week the process continues, and your writing improves.
